32-bar jig for 3 couples in a 4-couple set

1-8	1st couple lead (right hands joined) down the middle for three and back to 1st place for three. On bars 7 and 8, 1st couple cast into second place while 2nd couple steps up.
9-16	2nd, 1st, and 3rd couples dance an 8 bar mirror reel on their own side of the dance. 1st couple begins by dancing in and down, 3rd couple out and up, 2nd couple out and down.
17-20	1st couple dances a half figure 8 around their second corner, giving right shoulder to begin and ending in 2nd place on opposite sides.
21-24	1st couple turn partner by the right hand 1 and a half times to 2nd place on their own side.
25-32	2nd, 1st and 3rd couples dance 6 hands round and back
	Repeat having passed a couple.

Recommended Tune: I really like "The Pleasures of the Night". Lead tune in the three versions of "C'est l'Amour" that I have.

TURN, TURN, TURN

A 32-bar Strathspey for 3 couples in a 3-couple set

1-4	1st man cast off one place and turn 2nd lady once around with both hands, 2nd man stepping up on bars 1 and 2.
5-8	1st lady turn 2nd man once around with both hands and cast off one place, 2nd lady stepping up on bars 7 and 8
9-16	1st and 2nd couples set to and turn partner once around with both hands in 2 bars, opening to dance four hand around to the left.
17-20	1st couple set advancing to first corners and turn first corner with both hands finishing with 1st man between 3rd couple facing up and 1st lady between 2nd couple facing down.
21-24	1st couple set advancing to second corners, passing partner by the left shoulder, and turn second corner with both hands finishing with 1st man in 2nd lady's place facing down and 1st lady in 2nd man's place facing up.
25-32	2nd, 1st and 3rd couples dance 6 bar left shoulder reel of three with 1st couple crossing to the bottom on their own side giving left hand, 3rd couple finishing in 2nd place.

THE AGNES BLACKADDER FIRE ALARM

16-bar reel + 16-bar Strathspey medley for 2 couples in a 4-couple longwise set

Everyone starts on the first repetition (not just the first 2 couples).

Devised by Truus de Ceuster ( tbestellingen [at] outlook.com ) after a 2am fire alarm at St. Andrews Summer School in August 2013.

The first 8 bars show how all guests rapidly leave the building. The poussette without hands in reeltime represents that people are excited, and agitatedly talk to each other. Then everything slows down, and one wonders when will anything happen. Finally, the Rights and Lefts suggest people are returning to their bedrooms. We presented it with a bunch of dancers, partly in pyjamas, at Summer School's Friday night Ceilidh.

WHO AM I?

40-bar reel for 3 couples in a 4-couple longwise set

1-8	1s, 2s & 3s dance Mirror Crossover Reels of Three, 1s dancing out and down through second position opposite side to begin and finish in partner's original place
9-16	1s & 2s dance Ladies' Chain BUT 1M and 2M are dancing the ladies' role, turning by the RH, etc. with 1 and 2L stepping down/up on the sidelines
17-24	1s, 2s & 3s dance Mirror Crossover Reels of Three but this time it is 2s (not 1s)who begin the reel by crossing down below 3s and casting up into the reel and finishing in partner's original place.
25-32	2s & 3s dance Men's Chain BUT 2L and 3L are dancing the men's role, turning by the LH etc. with 2M and 3M stepping down/up on the sidelines.
33-40	1s and 2s set. 1s & 2s dance RH Across Halfway. Retaining RH with partner, 1s and 2s turn once round to finish 2134

Devised by Bob Davidson (piobbeag [at] aol.com), who says, "Having recently done a dance which had the ladies dancing the men's role in a Men's Chain, I thought it only fair that the men would have their turn."

32-bar Strathspey for 3 couples in a 4-couple longwise set

1-4	1C lead down for 4 bars. 2C step up on bars 3-4.
5-8	1C lead up for 2 bars to just above 3C, and turn RH once around to finish in promenade hold facing up.
9-16	1C in promenade hold dance a reel of 3 across with 3C, passing 3M by LS to begin. 1C end in 2nd place, still in the middle of the dance and 3C finish by curving in behind 1C to take promenade hold. 2C dance in on bar 16 to take promenade hold.
17-24	2C, 1C and 3C allemande. On the last 2 bars, instead of retiring, 1C petronella turn to finish woman between 3C (at the top) facing down, man between 2C (at the bottom) facing up.
25-30	3C with 1W and 2C with 1M take hands and set in lines of 3 across. All advance (1 bar) and retire (1 bar), and change places RH with opposite person.
31-32	1C petronella turn to 2nd place on own sides.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, Alan spent most of his adult life in Minneapolis and many years living along the shores of the Mississippi.

UPDATE 6 Feb 2013: Moved instructions for bars 31-32 to a separate line to make it more clear that only 1C are dancing the last 2 bars. Slight wording change to bars 25-30 to help clarify that crossing on bars 29-30 is up and down the set.
